Edouard Burgeat is a French artist working and living between Paris & London. His work explores a large variety of techniques that he uses to express his concepts. This multidisciplinary nature comes from his interest in materials and his background in art, photography & design.
Finding inspiration in everyday life but also in modern history, Edouard Burgeat proposes a reflection on history from world wars to modern times. He uses archives (pictures, negatives, cards, photographic plates) and objects like testimony that he reinterprets and gives new meaning.
‘Discussion between times’ is a body of photographic superpositions, where the artist juxtaposes his pictures with one of his ancestor, André Burgeat who died in the 1960s. Juxtaposing these images allows an analysis of the evolution of the modern world over a century oscillating between freedom, city and the family.
The choice of these materials fulfils Edouard Burgeat’s need to testify and preserve memories as he re-organises and associates them with contemporary materials. He constantly plays with the limits between sacred and secular.
