Gabriela Tropia is a dance filmmaker and lecturer. Her film, A prova d’água, was selected for the Festival do Minuto (the Brazilian One-Minute Film Festival). Her videodance works have featured at festivals in Brazil, Argentina, France, Spain, Portugal, the US and Singapore. She directed the short, Units of Action, which has toured more than 20 countries, including the Live Screen event at Sadler’s Wells in London, and is available on the Videodance Mercosur Circuit DVD. Gabi has a long term collaboration with 2013 Place Prize winner Riccardo Buscarini and has worked with the Singaporean dance company T.H.E.. Her most recent and on-going project is an experimental collaboration with contact improvisation dancers. It involves the conception, shooting and editing of short films within a strict and limited timeframe of 2 hours. Since 2010 Gabi has worked as a Lecturer in Dance and Technology at The London Contemporary Dance School.
Under the Cobblestones is a film about protest, freedom of speech and repression. Directed by dance-filmmaker Gabriela Tropia, based on choreography by Work Place artists Moreno Solinas and Igor Urzelai with soundtrack by Female World Champion Beatboxer Bellatrix, the film was shot on location in South London at the Heygate Estate, which has since then been demolished.
