Artist statement

Victoria Burgher’s practice includes sculpture, video and installation. Recent work focuses obliquely on contemporary political issues, with meaning referenced through the choice and employment of materials. Often taking a site, space or situation as a starting point, Burgher will use substance and process to translate, reinterpret and embody the voices that emanate from it. Drawn to “poor” materials and ephemeral outcomes, she is interested in amassing elements to create a larger whole and in creating environments that are participated in rather than merely spectated.
